[This is a story of an original character of mine Steve Aldren who is, in fact, a recently promoted Mage of the White Council living in a suburb of Austin TX. It is unscripted as I allowed the system to guide me everywhere. Enjoy!]
Empty Room
((Is the room barren?))
(50/50 | 8[d10]) Yes
((Are there any Windows?))
(50/50 | 4[d10]) No, but...
I awaken with a start. My eye blinded by the light being emitted by the fluorescent on the unfamiliar ceiling. It takes me a moment adjust before I am able to focus on my surroundings. An empty room; its walls painted a pale white which only helped amplify the bulbs glow. I slowly stood from my place on the cold hard floor. Where was this place? How did I get here? More importantly, how do I get out? I gazed around the room. No windows. An indication of either being in a large place with internal rooms or underground. Neither was very appealing. My eyes shot to the door in the center of, what I was assuming to be the north wall. I hastily moved to open it.
((If the door locked?))
(50/50 | 8[d10]) Yes
I meet resistance from the door knob. Locked? Someone had put me here against my will. I attempted to focus my thoughts on what I had done today. I recalled waking up in my single room apartment deciding to go out for breakfast... and nothing after that. My mind was a complete blank! A quick shot of panic ran through me before I shook it from me mind. The first Priority was to see about getting out of here! I inspected the door.
((Is the door made of wood?))
(Somewhat Unlikely | 2[d10]) No +Event: Open/ War
Giving the door a quick tap I felt the cold hard ping of metal against my fingers. Clearly whoever put me in here was not. As I inspected the door further the room shook slightly as the sound of combat could be heard just outside... what was going on out there? It was clear that wherever he was it was not a place he wanted to be. A door such as this would be a problem for an average joe, but I was a Wizard of the White Council. Recently acknowledge mind, but still a Wizard none the less. I closed my eyes to focus my will on the elements I was familiar with. The energy coursed through my hand as I unleashed a quick vortex of Air into the door.
((Do I have my Focus Items?))
(50/50 | 2[d10]) No
((Rolling a 3-Shift Air Attack against the Door vs Diff of +3 Good. Discipline +3, 1 Mental Stress))
0 = -1 -1 +1 +1
With a blast of air, I rip the door off its hinges revealing my path out, I felt a sudden rush of nausea come on as I centered myself. What just happened? Why was that spell more difficult than usual? I had cast that dozens of time? The realization dawned on me as I looked for my pearl ring. a white tan line an indication it was ever there. Dammit! Either these people knew what I was or they figured they had found a fancy trophy. Either way, this was bad. He had to figure out a way to get them back! I make my way out of the room.
((Do I see anyone?))
(Somewhat Likely | 8[d10]) Yes
Shy female emergency medical technician
As the dust clears from the blast I hear a female shout over the sound of combat which is more prominent.
((Dose the fighting sound like gunfire?))
(Very Likely | 6[d10]) Yes, but...
((If the girl hostile?))
(Unlikely | 3[d10]) No
((Does she look like a fellow captive?))
(Very Likely | 10[d10]) Yes, and...
I quickly jump out at the sound of the woman, fearing I may have injured someone with my escape to see a girl dressed in EMT ware .SHe appears to be rather young, perhaps in her late 20's. She has short, curled, golden hair shaved on the right side and brown eyes. She is sitting not two feet from where the door was, her head is dripping with sweat and her clothes are rather bloody and torn. She stares up at me in objective horror. Who can blame her? SHe just saw me step out of the inside of a room that's door was just blasted off its hinges.
((Were are we?))
Parking garage
I look around a quick second to get my bearings. I smell the familiar scent of oil and mildew as the parking garage lights flicker on and off in random places.
((Is the fighting taking place here?))
(Somewhat Likely | 9[d10]) Yes
((Are the combatants dressed professionally?))
(50/50 | 6[d10]) Yes, but...
I kneel down beside her to ensure her that I am not there to hurt her, but as I do so I am able to hear the sound of the combat more prominently. There is definitely gunfire coming from somewhere here but also the sound of... something else, a monstrous roar. I turn to see the sight of several men dressed in para-military get-ups. Shooting at... something outside my field of vision. Whatever it is, seems to be big... and loud. I rush behind a pillar to get a decent look at the guards to notice that their armor is a very high grade, but their weapons are mix-mash of assault rifles, shotguns, and pistols that don't look uniform at all. More rather it looks like they were a collection of random weapons they just picked up.
What was going on?
I feel a weight on my arm as I turn to see the woman clutching onto it. She looks up at me with terror as she begs me to get her out of here. It would be nice to get some answers, from what it sounds like the more immediate issue is to get out of here as quickly as possible. I scan the area for a quick escape.
((Alertness +2 fair))
0 = -1 -1 +1 +1
((DO I find any exit safe exit?))
(Somewhat Likely | 5[d10]) Yes, but...
I scan the area to find a door with exit on the other side. Being guarded by two thugs dressed in a similar fashion to the men fighting, Queen knows that. I didn't have time to pittle pattle. I needed to do something about them and fast.
While I was trained in the finer arts of combat spells, I was just as equally confident in my more subtle applications of magic. Normally I could just shroud myself in a veil and sneak by, but the girl in tow would be an issue, so I opted for another subtle approach. Eyeing the surrounding's I spotted a shadowy spot nearby the door. A perfect location for a distraction.
((Performing a Spirit Maneuver to create the 'STRANGE SOUND' Aspect on the Scene in order to tag it. Pumping 3 shifts of power))
2 = +1 +1 -1 +1
((Taking 1 as Backlash to complete the spell))
I feel the energy pulse out as I manifest the unusual sounds in the Shadowy area. The guards investigate which gives me time to escort the girl away from the fighting. We wait for our moment and quickly make our way towards the door. My head pounding from the amount of magic I had used up till now.
((Rolling my Stealth at Mediocer vs their Alertness which would be at Average due to the distraction of the noise))
1 = +0 +1 +1 -1
The pace was quite but fast, as we exit through the doors just in time! We take a moment to catch our breath as I examine our surroundings.
((Are we outside?))
(Somewhat Likely | 10[d10]) Yes, and...
I gave out at the bright lights of the noon sun, it's mid-day... and I recognize the location! We are on the east side of town. Just a block away from the local Accorded Neutral Grounds. If these fools are magically inclined it would be our safest bet!
I quickly gaze at the woman beside me.
((Is she any better?))
(Unlikely | 2[d10]) No
The woman is tense, she fears they may be still looking for us. I quickly tell her that everything is going to be all right and that I know a place where we can be safe. Taking her by the hand before she can protest I quickly make my way towards ACN. I was going to get some answers, whether she was willing or not.
